Textiles for Peace
2008.02.15
Last December 2007, the “Biella The Art of Excellence” Foundation attended to the 8th World Summit of Nobel Peace Laureates, held at the Campidoglio palace, in Rome, Italy, running under the title “The next generation”. During the event, the Foundation delivered to the guests of honour a specially created box, containing a selection of excellence textiles made in Biella.
The “Textiles for Peace” initiative falls into the wide context of the Roman Summit, aiming to pay tribute to the prestige and commitment demonstrated by the personalities present at the event by offering them the textiles made in Biella, symbol of the excellence and top-quality production of this city. The twenty guests of honour include some Nobel Peace Laureates such as Mikhail Gorbachev, S. S. Dalai Lama and Lech Walesa.
The textiles were provided by some woollen mills joining the Foundation: Garlanda, Luigi Botto, Botto Giuseppe, Tessilstrona, Ormezzano and Cerruti offered to the male award winners a box containing textiles symbolising Biella’s excellence, or, to female winners, a Cashmere stole manufactured by Alfredo Pria.
