Rieter Acquires Berkol
2008.04.01
On November 12, 2007, Rieter signed a purchase agreement to acquire textile component manufacturer Berkol, a business unit of Huber+ Suhner AG based in Pfäffikon/Zurich (Switzerland). The Textile Systems Division will thus expand its product portfolio in the technology components sector and further extend its lead as the world’s largest supplier of technology components for staple fibre spinning machines.
Berkol develops and manufactures top roller covers and aprons for spinning machines as well as machinery and equipment for maintaining and servicing these components. These technology components are supplied to both spinning mills and machinery manufacturers worldwide. Rollers and aprons used in different spinning processes are important for yarn quality, since they come into direct contact with the fibers being processed. The Pfäffikon Zurich-based business unit generates sales of some CHF 11 million with 23 employees.
Rieter has acquired the Berkol business with all its employees and trademark rights as of January 1, 2008. Berkol has been integrated in Bräcker AG, the Rieter company which is also based in Pfäffikon. Bräcker manufactures ring travellers and spinning rings for ring spinning machines with some 75 employees.
The Rieter Group operates internationally, developing and producing sophisticated systems solutions for the textile and automotive industries.
